New scheme – Passport Services Integrated with DigiLocker Platform

On February 19, 2021, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. V Muraleedharan launched a new scheme for integrating passport services with DigiLocker platform of Government of India. This scheme will enable the applicants applying for passport services anywhere in India to upload their documents in the DigiLocker. The applicants can provide the link to their DigiLocker wherever documents are required thereby enabling paperless transactions. No original documents are required to be carried anywhere. This scheme is a crucial step in Digital India mission thereby contributing to the digital revolution and transformation.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:

• The scheme aims at providing a platform to the citizens applying for passport related services to upload and safely store their documents in digital format
• It aims at easing the transactions for the citizens thereby making paperless mode of documentation
• It will include issuance as well as verification of documents in a digital mode
• It will enable the users to access the documents from any location
• This digital way of storing and accessing the documents on a government platform will also help in case of loss of passport
• DigiLocker is a crucial step toward Digital India movement
