Ministry of Education, Government of India has come up with a new initiative named NIPUN Bharat Mission for promoting literacy and numeracy along with education for students in the age group of 3-9 years. This initiative is launched by Education Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on July 5, 2021. NIPUN stands for – National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy. NIPUN Bharat is a national initiative on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). This initiative tends to ensure that each child gets reading, writing and numeracy abilities by the end of grade 3, by the year 2026-27. It aims at universal access to literacy and numeracy to each child. Implementation of the scheme will be done through 5-tier mechanism including national, state district, block, school levels in all the states and union territories in the country. This initiative will be in operation under Samagra Shiksha scheme.
