New Scheme for Tourist Vehicle Operators by Government of India

On March 14, 2021, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India announced a new scheme for Tourist vehicle operators under which new All-India tourist authorization/ permits will be issued on application. This scheme tends to promote tourism as well as increase state government’s income through tourism sector. It aims to ensure smooth movement of tourist vehicles in the country. It will help all the tourist vehicle operators with permits for 3 months at a stretch with a capacity of renewal up to 3 years. For getting the permit, applications are to be made by the beneficiaries with relevant documents and thereby post required scrutiny permits will be issued within 30 days of application.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:

• The main objective of this scheme is to boost the tourism sector in the country thereby covering all the states
• It also aims at generating new self-employment opportunities in the state
• Under the scheme the Tourist vehicle operators will be enabled to apply online for All India Tourist Authorization/ Permit
• This permit will be issued within 30 days of application
• It aims to ensure smooth movement of tourist passenger vehicles in the country
• This will also facilitate one permit, one nation movement thereby assisting the tourists and the citizens
• The scheme is mainly for strengthening the tourism industry in the country
• It will thus lead to the overall economic growth and development in the state.

Scheme Details:

• The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, on March 14, 2021, has announced a new scheme for assisting the tourist vehicle operators in the country
• It aims at promoting the tourism sector in the country
• It will also lead to increased contribution to the revenue of the respective state government
• Under this scheme All India Tourist Authorization/ Permit will be issued to the beneficiaries on online application
• The beneficiary has to apply online for the permit with relevant documents and required fees
• Post scrutiny of application, permit will be issued to the tourist vehicle operator within 30 days of application
• This permit will be applicable for 3 months at a stretch and can be extended through renewal for about 3 years
• Existing permits will be in force as per their validity mentioned
• It aims to help the tourist vehicle operators with less financial capability
• Online mode of applications will enable transparency in transactions and maintain a database of operators
• This scheme will strengthen the tourism sector in the country
• Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has framed a new set of rules as ‘All India Tourist Vehicle Authorization and Permit Rules, 2021’ for regulating the tourism industry and ensuring smooth movement of tourist passenger vehicles in the country
• The new set of rules will be applicable from April 1, 2021
