The Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has launched a┬аOverseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship (OVDF) program for Ph.D students in India. Under the scheme government will provide support to the┬аPh.D. students to carry out their doctoral research in foreign countries. The┬аOverseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship (OVDF) is implemented by┬аScience and Engineering Research Board (SERB).
Benefits, Fellowship & Objectives of┬аOverseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship (OVDF) Program:
- Ph.D. scholars can carry out their doctoral research overseas
- Selected fellows will be paid monthly fellowship of US $2000
- They will be also given┬аone-time contingency and preparatory allowances of Rs. 60,000 to cover visa fee, medical insurance, airport transfer charges etc
- One shortest route to and fro economy air tickets
- One additional to and fro air ticket in case the research take more than a year
- SERB will sponsor one visit of the Indian supervisor of the research scholar
- Govt. will pay economy to and fro economy air ticket for shortest route
- US $ 75┬аPer-diem (Subsistence Allowance) per day will be paid to te supervisor
- US $100 – $150 per day accommodation allowance too will be┬аprovided
- Allowance of US $ 250 contingencies and related travel allowance too will be provided
Eligibility & Terms:
- Only Indian nationals can apply for the scheme
- Only full time Ph.D students can are eligible
- Ph.D. scholars from government or government approved universities and colleges only can apply for OVDF
- Students of following disciplines only are eligible:┬аScience, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (including Medicine, Pharma, Agriculture and related S&T areas)
- The must have offer┬аletter from a reputed overseas institution to carry out research
- Part-time students or those who have already submitted their thesis are not eligible for the scheme
- The duration of the research should not be more than 12 month overseas
- The duration can be extended to 6 more months based on the evaluation
- During the duration of the research salary and other benefits which are paid by the current employer will continue
- Selected fellows should not apply for any other fellowship
- The selected candidates need to start their research work within 3 months of their arrival at the overseas university
- The research and the overseas research should be approved by the Indian supervisor

- Copy of Ph.D registration certificate
- Biodata of the supervisor in India
- Biodata of the supervisor abroad
- Endorsement letter from the applicant`s┬аhead of institution
- Letter of acceptance and research plan from the host and overseas institute
- Recommendation letter from the Indian supervisor
