The marriage certificate is an official statement that two people are married. In India OR Goa, Marriages can be registered either under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. It is legal proof that you are married and most vital document of a marriage, in 2006, the Supreme Court made it compulsory to register the marriage for woman protection. It is most important in order to get a passport, visa, bank account etc
Required eligibility and conditions for Application of Marriage Certificate in Goa:
- Bridegroom must have completed 21 years of age
- Bride must have completed 18 years of age
Document required for Application of Marriage Certificate in Goa:
- Completely filled application form signed by both husband and wife
- Proof of Address- Voter ID/ Ration Card/ Passport, Driving License
- 2 passport sized photographs
- 1 marriage photograph
- Separate marriage affidavits in prescribed format from Husband & Wife
- Aadhar Card
- The groom and bride’s 2 photograph copies in the marriage dress at the time of marriage ceremony celebration was taking place are required to show their involvement in the ceremony
- One wedding card copy
- Groom and bride’s identity proof (passport or PAN Card or Voter ID card etc.).
- Husband’s address proof (Driving license, Ration card, Passport, Telephone bill, House Rent Agreement.)
- Groom and Bride’s age proof (mark sheet of 10th standard with the birth date or Passport)
- In case the name of the bride has been changed after the marriage then the affidavit is required
- The newspaper in which the information of the name change was published
- Date of marriage
- Place of marriage
- Name and address of the person who solemnized the marriage (If any)
- Place, namely the Village, Taluka and District where the marriage was solemnized, with full address
- Particulars of 3 witness
Application procedure:
- Applicants can download application from both mentioned link: https://govinfo.me/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/MARRIAGE.pdf OR can collect from Marriage Officer (Additional District Magistrate & Collector) of the Office of the District Magistrate & Collector is designated as the Marriage Officer
- Fill in the marriage registration form
- Submit the filled form to the sub-registrar office of the locality for which you have address proof
- The couple has to appear before the Registrar along with their parents or guardians or other witnesses within one month from the date of marriage
- All witnesses should sign in front of the registrar
Fees for application:
- Application fees for applying marriage certificate in GOA is between Rs. 45 to Rs. 150
