Central government launched a new scheme for promoting the goat and sheep rearing in India. It aims at promoting animal husbandry business. Under this scheme, the animal husbandry department will give 90% financial assistance to the farmers. This scheme is mainly to motivate landless, mall and marginal farmers to opt for sheep and goat rearing.

Scheme Objectives:
- The main objective of the scheme is to promote goat rearing in the country
- It aims at encouraging the farmers to opt for goat and sheep rearing, thereby improving their household income and nutritional intake
- This scheme aims to promote the animal husbandry business in the country as a whole
Scheme Benefits:
- This scheme promotes goat rearing, thereby providing 90% financial assistance to the farmers
- Each farmer will be given 10 high yielding adult female sheep or goats and one male sheep or goat. Total cost of this unit is Rs. 66,000 but the farmer has to pay only Rs. 6,600. Rest of the amount will be borne by central and state government.
- It will enable the farmers to improve their income as well as nutritional intake
- This scheme will promote livestock farming, by encouraging more and more farmers to enter this profitable business
How to Apply:
- The applicants can collect, fill in and submit their application to the Block level veterinary officer.
- Forms will be verified and the beneficiaries will be shortlisted by the district level selection committee.

- A cluster of 5 farmers will be formed for each jurisdiction, who will verify and select potential beneficiaries
- Preference will be given to below poverty line women farmers, widows and persons with disabilities.
